SAIL Chairman Meets BCCL CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal in New Delhi, Discusses Strengthening Coking Coal Partnership

BCCL plays a crucial role in meeting the coking coal requirements of the domestic steel industry

Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Ashok Kumar Panda, met Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss ways to further strengthen the long-standing partnership between the two public sector enterprises.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the existing coking coal supply arrangements and explored opportunities for enhancing cooperation to meet the growing requirements of the domestic steel sector. BCCL, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, is a key supplier of indigenous coking coal to Steel Authority of India Limited, which remains one of the country’s largest steel producers.

The discussions focused on ensuring a reliable and sustainable supply of coking coal to SAIL’s steel plants, improving coal quality, strengthening logistics coordination, and identifying avenues for deeper collaboration in support of India’s steel production and self-reliance objectives. BCCL plays a crucial role in meeting the coking coal requirements of the domestic steel industry and contributes significantly to reducing dependence on imported coal.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two Maharatna and Miniratna PSU entities and enhancing coordination to support the nation’s industrial growth and energy security goals.

The meeting assumes significance as India continues to focus on increasing domestic steel production while reducing reliance on imported coking coal through greater utilization of indigenous resources.
