Coal Gasification to Strengthen India’s Energy Security and Industrial Growth: G Kishan Reddy
The initiative is aimed at enhancing energy security, reducing dependence on imports, and advancing the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat

A roadshow on Surface Coal and Lignite Gasification Projects was held in Mumbai today in the distinguished presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey. The event highlighted the Government of India’s ambitious vision to accelerate coal gasification and unlock the immense potential of the country’s abundant coal resources.

Addressing the gathering, Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy emphasized that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India has approved a landmark incentive scheme worth ₹37,500 crore to promote coal gasification projects across the country. The initiative is aimed at enhancing energy security, reducing dependence on imports, and advancing the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).
Coal gasification is emerging as a transformative technology that converts coal into valuable products such as methanol, ammonia, urea, synthetic gas, green hydrogen, and other value-added chemicals. The initiative is expected to significantly boost domestic production of these critical commodities while reducing reliance on imported feedstocks.

The programme is also expected to provide a major impetus to sectors such as fertilizers, chemicals, and advanced manufacturing. By encouraging investments in coal-rich regions, the policy will create substantial employment opportunities and promote industrial development in mining areas.
The roadshow served as an important platform for industry stakeholders, investors, and policymakers to explore opportunities in coal and lignite gasification projects. Participants discussed strategies to accelerate project implementation and leverage government incentives to drive innovation and sustainable growth in the sector.
The Government believes that these transformative initiatives in the coal sector will play a crucial role in building a developed India, strengthening the nation’s energy independence, and fostering long-term economic growth.
“Coal gasification represents a significant milestone in India’s journey towards energy self-reliance and industrial transformation. It will not only create new economic opportunities but also contribute to the nation’s broader goal of sustainable development and energy security,” said Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy.
