BCCL CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal Leads High-Level Delegation to Bengaluru to Study Aditya Birla Textile Model

Based on the findings of the visit, BCCL and JRDA are expected to prepare a detailed roadmap for promoting industrial development in Belgharia Township

In a significant initiative aimed at creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for rehabilitated families in the Jharia coalfield region, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) Chairman-cum-Managing Director Manoj Kumar Agarwal is leading a high-level delegation on a two-day visit to Bengaluru to study the textile manufacturing ecosystem and industrial park model of the Aditya Birla Group.

The visit is part of BCCL’s efforts to explore the feasibility of establishing a textile-based industrial ecosystem in Belgharia Township, Dhanbad, under the Jharia Master Plan (JMP). The proposed initiative seeks to generate employment and self-employment opportunities for rehabilitated and project-affected families residing in the township.

During the visit, the team is undertaking a comprehensive assessment of textile industry operations, manufacturing processes, industrial infrastructure, skill development mechanisms, and employment generation models being implemented by the Aditya Birla Group. The delegation is also interacting with industry experts and management teams to understand how successful textile manufacturing models can be replicated in Belgharia Township.

The study tour follows directions issued by Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy during his visit to Dhanbad and Belgharia Township last year. The Minister had advised BCCL and JRDA officials to explore collaboration with reputed industrial groups, including the Aditya Birla Group, for setting up employment-oriented industries in the region.

Special focus areas of the Bengaluru visit include employment generation for local youth, women’s empowerment through industrial participation, vocational training, community engagement, infrastructure requirements, and business viability. The initiative is expected to provide valuable insights for diversifying economic opportunities beyond the coal sector and ensuring long-term socio-economic rehabilitation of communities affected by mining activities.

Based on the findings of the visit, BCCL and JRDA are expected to prepare a detailed roadmap for promoting industrial development in Belgharia Township. If implemented, the proposed textile project could emerge as a transformational initiative, creating thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities while accelerating the economic development of the region.
