SAIL Officers’ Compulsory Retirement Plan Faces Roadblock: SEFI to Meet Top Management

Other issues to be discussed include delays in the transfer of funds under the National Pension System (NPS), as well as the proposed merger of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) and NMDC with SAIL

A crucial meeting between the management of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and the Steel Executive Federation of India (SEFI) is to be held in New Delhi on September 1 and 2 to discuss the issue of compulsory retirement of officers and other key matters, including higher pension.

The meeting will be led by SAIL CMD Dr. Ashok Kumar Panda. Senior officials from the SAIL management will participate in the discussions, while SEFI will be represented by its President Narendra Kumar Banchhor, General Secretary Sanjay Arya, Vice President Ajay Kumar Pandey and other office-bearers.

One of the major issues to be taken up during the meeting will be the compulsory retirement of officers working at the Bokaro Steel Plant and its mines and collieries, as well as officers posted at Rourkela, Bhilai, Durgapur and other SAIL units.

SEFI is expected to discuss the matter with the SAIL management and seek its intervention with the Ministry of Steel for a fresh reconsideration of the compulsory retirement decisions. The federation will press for the restoration of services of the affected officers.

Another important issue on the agenda will be the problems being faced by SAIL officers in different units regarding higher pension with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). SEFI will discuss the matter in detail with the management and seek an early resolution.

The meeting is also expected to cover the issuance of promotion orders from the post of Chief General Manager (CGM) to Executive Director (ED), officers’ welfare, housing allotment, medical facilities and improvement in work-life balance at workplaces.

Other issues to be discussed include delays in the transfer of funds under the National Pension System (NPS), as well as the proposed merger of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) and NMDC with SAIL.

The two-day meeting is expected to provide a platform for SEFI and SAIL management to exchange views on these long-pending issues and explore possible solutions in the interest of the officers and the organisation.
