BCCL Explores Electric Vehicles for Sustainable Mining Operations
EV manufacturers showcased their latest technologies, electric vehicles and charging solutions, with discussions focusing on their suitability for mining applications
Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has begun exploring the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in mining operations as part of its efforts to make mining activities more sustainable, energy-efficient and technology-driven.
BCCL organized a workshop-cum-seminar on “Adoption of Electric Vehicles in Mining Operations” at Coal Bhawan Headquarters to examine the feasibility and practical roadmap for deploying electric mobility across mining and allied activities.
The workshop was attended by Bikram Kumar, Head, CMC Department, Coal Bhawan Headquarters; General Manager (Excavation) R.K. Sinha; and General Manager (Electrical and Mechanical) R.K. Karna, along with other officials.
Representatives of BCCL contractors, including RA Mining, STG Associate, Hilltop Hirise, BLA Infra and Ambey Mining Pvt. Ltd., participated in the discussions. Leading EV and technology companies, including BEML, Propel India, L&T, Montra Electric, Volvo and MACO, also participated through offline and online modes.
BCCL presented its approach towards introducing electric vehicles in mining activities, highlighting the potential benefits in terms of energy efficiency, cleaner operations and long-term sustainability.

The workshop provided a platform for BCCL officials, contractors and EV manufacturers to exchange technical inputs and assess the prospects of safe, practical and economically viable electric mobility solutions for mining operations.
The programme was organized by BCCL’s Contract Management Cell (CMC) as directed by Coal India Limited (CIL). The initiative forms part of BCCL’s broader efforts to accelerate technological advancement and adopt sustainable solutions in mining.
