The State Has a Power Crisis. The Minister Has a Personal Power Crisis. Guess Who?
And unlike the coal crisis, there appears to be no immediate sign of either side getting a supply of goodwill
One State is facing two power crises at the same time.
The first is the obvious one – a shortage of coal, making power generation increasingly difficult and leaving the state’s power managers with plenty to worry about.
The second crisis, however, is considerably bigger.
It is the cold war between the Power Minister and the powerful bureaucrat heading the state’s discom.
Relations between the two are said to be so strained that when the Minister calls a meeting to review the state’s power situation, the top officer is, by choice, not in town, preferring instead to be out inspecting a power plant.
The Minister, meanwhile, has reportedly been heard lamenting that the powerful bureaucrat simply does not listen to him.
Things became even more interesting when a letter written by the Minister against the bureaucrat somehow found its way into the media.
One might have expected the letter to trigger some action at the highest level.
Apparently not.
So, while one crisis is about coal, the other is about control.
And unlike the coal crisis, there appears to be no immediate sign of either side getting a supply of goodwill.
