Petronet LNG Announces Rs 1,200 Crore Foray into Bio-Gas
PLL makes this move with a 50:50 joint venture with Gruner Renewable Energy

Petronet LNG Ltd is set to diversify into the renewable energy space with a Rs 1,200 crore investment to establish 10 Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants through a 50:50 joint venture with Gruner Renewable Energy.
Each of the proposed CBG plants is expected to have a production capacity of 18 metric tonnes per day, taking the aggregate planned capacity to 180 MT per day across the 10 facilities.
The proposed joint venture marks a significant expansion of Petronet LNG’s business interests beyond its core LNG operations and into the growing compressed bio-gas segment.
The estimated capital outlay for the project is Rs 1,200 crore, with Petronet LNG and Gruner Renewable Energy expected to hold equal ownership in the venture.
Further details, including the incorporation timeline, project locations, financing structure and execution roadmap, are expected to emerge through subsequent stock exchange filings.
The proposed investment comes as energy companies increasingly explore opportunities across cleaner and renewable fuels, with CBG emerging as an important component of India’s alternative-energy ecosystem.
For Petronet LNG, the proposed venture represents a strategic move to build a presence in a new energy segment while leveraging its existing capabilities in the broader energy sector.
