Cooperative Banks to Remain Open During Three-Day Bank Strike

NAFCUB, NUCFDC and NAFSCOB reiterated their commitment to customer service, financial inclusion and continuity of accessible banking services during the proposed strike period

Cooperative banks across India will continue to provide banking services during the three-day bank strike proposed from September 28 to 30, 2026, the sector’s three leading representative bodies said on Friday.

The National Federation of Urban Cooperative Banks and Credit Societies (NAFCUB), National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation (NUCFDC) and National Federation of State Cooperative Banks (NAFSCOB) said cooperative banking institutions have not proposed to participate in the strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU).

The clarification covers a nationwide cooperative banking network comprising around 1,450 Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs), 34 State Cooperative Banks (StCBs) and 351 District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs).

The three bodies said these institutions would continue serving customers, members and businesses under their normal operational arrangements.

Customers can continue to access services including deposits, withdrawals, remittances and other branch transactions, subject to the facilities provided by individual banks.

Cooperative banks will also continue to cater to agricultural and rural credit requirements, while individuals, traders, small businesses and entrepreneurs can access banking facilities offered by UCBs and other cooperative institutions.

Digital channels such as ATMs, mobile banking, internet banking and UPI will also remain available wherever offered by individual banks.

The organisations, however, advised customers to contact their respective cooperative bank or branch to confirm the availability of specific services and transaction facilities during the strike period.

The cooperative banking sector has a wide presence across rural, semi-urban and urban India and serves farmers, rural households, traders, small businesses and other sections of the economy.

NAFCUB, NUCFDC and NAFSCOB reiterated their commitment to customer service, financial inclusion and continuity of accessible banking services during the proposed strike period.
