Cochin Shipyard-Built Mangrol to Be Commissioned into Indian Navy on October 12
The vessel reflects India’s growing indigenous capabilities in warship design, construction and the integration of advanced weapons and sensor systems

The Indian Navy will commission Mangrol, the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, on October 12, 2026, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
The commissioning ceremony will be attended by senior naval and defence officials, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and Cochin Shipyard Limited, naval veterans, and representatives of indigenous weapons and sensor manufacturers.
Named after Mangrol, a coastal town and prominent fishing harbour in Gujarat’s Junagadh district, the warship carries forward the legacy of the erstwhile INS Mangrol (M85), a minesweeper that served the Indian Navy until April 7, 2004.
The vessel reflects India’s growing indigenous capabilities in warship design, construction and the integration of advanced weapons and sensor systems. With more than 80% indigenous content, Mangrol underscores the Indian Navy’s emphasis on domestic defence manufacturing and self-reliance in warship production.
The ASW-SWC programme is aimed at strengthening the Navy’s ability to detect and counter underwater threats in coastal and shallow-water environments. The induction of these vessels is expected to enhance the Navy’s operational capabilities in littoral waters.
The commissioning of Mangrol marks another milestone in the development of indigenous naval platforms and the contribution of Indian shipyards to the country’s maritime defence preparedness.
