SCOPE and IISD Launch ‘PSUs for PLANET’ Initiative to Advance Energy Transition
The SCOPE–IISD partnership comes at a time when climate accountability and sustainability reporting are assuming greater significance

The Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), Canada and Geneva, have launched ‘Practitioners’ Learning and Action Network on Energy Transition (PLANET) for PSUs’, an initiative aimed at strengthening the energy transition efforts of India’s public sector enterprises.
Pursuant to a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), SCOPE and IISD convened a workshop on ‘Climate-Related Disclosures for Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs)’, bringing the issue of climate transparency and disclosure practices into focus.
The workshop was addressed by Atul Sobti, Director General, SCOPE, and Christopher Beaton, Director, Energy Program, IISD.
Described as a first-of-its-kind initiative, PLANET seeks to bring together public sector undertakings, practitioners, experts and other stakeholders on a common platform to deliberate on critical energy transition issues, exchange knowledge and develop practical solutions.
The initiative will focus on pertinent subjects shaping the transition towards a more sustainable energy future, with climate-related disclosures identified as a key area of engagement. Such disclosures can help enterprises communicate their climate-related risks, opportunities and transition strategies, strengthening transparency and supporting informed decision-making.
Through structured deliberations, practitioner engagement and collaborative learning, PLANET aims to build a unified voice among public sector enterprises on energy transition challenges and solutions.
The SCOPE–IISD partnership comes at a time when climate accountability and sustainability reporting are assuming greater significance for enterprises navigating the transition to a lower-carbon economy. By facilitating knowledge-sharing and practical action, the initiative seeks to strengthen the capacity of PSUs to respond to emerging climate-related requirements and contribute to India’s broader energy transition objectives.
