Coal India Limited has reported a strong financial performance for the second quarter, with consolidated profit rising 53% to ₹6,516 crore. The state-owned coal mining behemoth has also declared an interim dividend of ₹10.25 per share, rewarding shareholders amid improved profitability.

The results highlight the company’s earnings performance during the quarter and reinforce its position as a major contributor to India’s coal sector and public sector enterprise landscape.

Revenue Rises 20.9% to ₹44,179 Crore

Coal India’s consolidated revenue from operations and other income-related items reflected a strong year-on-year improvement in the September quarter. Consolidated revenue stood at ₹44,178.7 crore, compared with ₹36,553.1 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year, marking an increase of approximately 20.9%.

Consolidated operating profit rose 29% to ₹8,502.6 crore from ₹6,593 crore a year earlier. The operating margin improved to 19.2%, against 18% in the corresponding quarter last year.

Profit before tax increased approximately 45.7% to ₹8,728.3 crore, compared with ₹5,992 crore in the year-ago period.

Dividend Record Date on November 4

The Board of Directors of Coal India, at its meeting on October 29, 2026, declared a second interim dividend of ₹10.25 per equity share for FY 2026-27. The face value of each equity share is ₹10.

The company has fixed November 4, 2026, as the record date to determine shareholder eligibility. Dividend payments are scheduled to be completed on or before November 27, 2026.

Sequential Profit Decline

Despite the strong year-on-year performance, Coal India’s consolidated net profit declined 26.4% compared with the June quarter, when it had reported a profit of approximately ₹8,852 crore. Revenue also declined 4.5% sequentially from ₹46,255 crore in Q1 FY27.

The results therefore present a mixed picture: substantial year-on-year growth in revenue and profitability, alongside a sequential moderation in earnings.
