Responding to www.indianpsu.com C.Srikumar stated the following

The Indian ordnance Factories are capable of developing and producing different types of products required for the Armed Forces. Basically the ordnance factories are meant for bulk manufacturing of products developed by DRDO and through technology from other sources. The AIDEF was always demanding to the government that apart from DRDO the ordnance Factories should also be encouraged to have their inhouse R&D and develop new products or improve the existing products by utilizing the most efficient skilled work force. Even though the policy makers at Delhi have not given much encouragement to the Ordnance Factories to develop new products, the Ordnance Factories of their own have developed many products in the recent past.

The OCF Avadi a Troop Comfort Items manufacturing Factory have already developed Bullet Resistant Jacket and have started supplying to various State Police Forces. The recent achievement is development is the Ballistic Helmet with Blast Attenuation capabilities. The Ballistic Helmet is designed to protect against high velocity bullets, Blunt impact, fragments and blast waves from IEDs. It protects against 9mm Carbine, SLR & AK(HSC) bullets from a distance of 20 mtrs., with maximum BFS of 13mm. Protects against fragments from blast also. Most advanced light weight materials used in boltless configuration of ACH/PASCT design to ensure the enhanced safety. Modular type accessory attachments for Night Vision goggles, Visor, Torch, Headphones, wireless communication devices and counter weight etc. the base variant will protect against 9mm ammunition from 5 mtrs., distance. The Factory is also taking steps to further advance the product.

The potential and inbuilt capacity of Ordnance Factories cannot be under estimated. Unfortunately the present Government has disintegrated and corporatized these Factories against which the employees are continuing their Trade Union Battle and legal battle.
