CBI Arrests Former CMD Of WAPCOS In Disproportionate Asset Case

The agency has recovered Rs 38.38 crore in cash, jewellery, valuables, FDs, bank locker keys and other documents

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Rajendra Kumar Gupta, former Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of WAPCOS and seized more than Rs 38 crore in cash during searches at his premises.

It is alleged that Rajendra Kumar Gupta acquired wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income during April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2019. The immovable properties of the accused include flats, commercial properties and farm houses in Delhi, Gurugram, Panchkula, Sonepat and Chandigarh. On May 2, 2023, the CBI conducted searches at 19 premises of the accused in Delhi, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Sonepat and Ghaziabad. CBI recovered Rs. 38.38 crore in cash, jewellery, valuables, FDs, bank locker keys and other documents etc. in the raid.

CBI spokesperson R.C. Joshi said that case of disproportionate assets was registered against Rajendra Kumar Gupta, his wife Reema Singhal, son Gaurav Singhal, daughter-in-law Komal Singhal. h

Rajendra Kumar Gupta had started consultancy business after retirement.

WAPCOS, earlier known as Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Limited, is a central public sector undertaking, wholly owned by the government, under the administrative control of the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
