CBI Arrests Defence PSU Executive Director in Bribery Case; ₹2.23 Crore Seized
CBI registers case on October 12 and arrests three accused on October 13; searches conducted in Pune, Mysuru, Bengaluru and Delhi

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the Executive Director of Munitions India Limited (MIL), Pune, and two other private individuals in an alleged bribery case, recovering approximately ₹2.23 crore in cash during searches at multiple locations.
According to an official CBI press release, the agency registered the case on October 12, 2026, against the public servant over allegations of demanding and accepting illegal gratification in connivance with certain private contractors and vendors in exchange for extending official favours.
The three accused were arrested on October 13, 2026.
₹2.23 Crore Cash Recovered During Searches
The CBI recovered ₹1.73 crore in cash during searches at premises linked to the accused public servant in Pune.
Further searches at premises associated with the accused in Mysuru, Bengaluru and Delhi resulted in the recovery of approximately ₹50 lakh in cash, along with incriminating documents.
The total cash recovery stands at approximately ₹2.23 crore.
The agency has stated that the investigation is continuing.
Allegations of Bribery in Defence PSU
The case concerns alleged corruption involving a senior executive of Munitions India Limited, a defence public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence.
The CBI’s official statement says the accused public servant allegedly demanded and accepted illegal gratification in exchange for official favours while posted as Executive Director at MIL’s Pune establishment. The alleged activities involved collusion with certain private contractors and vendors.
The allegations place the spotlight on the integrity of official decision-making and the oversight mechanisms governing interactions between defence PSU officials and private-sector suppliers.
₹500-Crore Ammunition Contract Under Scrutiny
The case has also been linked in media reports to an ammunition supply contract reportedly worth around ₹500 crore involving private defence manufacturer SMPP Ltd. Reports have identified the arrested public servant as Anil Kumar and the private individuals as Ashish Kansal, associated with SMPP Ltd, and B. Harshavardhan.
These additional details should be read separately from the CBI’s official press release, which confirms the registration of the bribery case, the arrests, the cash recoveries and the seizure of incriminating documents but does not identify the accused by name or specify the contract in its published statement.
Defence Procurement and Accountability
Munitions India Limited is among the defence public sector undertakings responsible for supplying ammunition and other products required by India’s armed forces.
Allegations of bribery involving a senior executive of such an organisation raise concerns about procurement integrity, transparency and safeguards against the misuse of official authority.
The ongoing investigation is expected to establish the alleged transactions, the role of the individuals involved and the circumstances surrounding the suspected exchange of illegal gratification.
The CBI has confirmed that the investigation is continuing. The allegations against the accused remain to be established through due legal process.
