Coal Secretary Reviews Reform Initiatives at Coal India Limited, Focuses on Productivity and Technological Transformation
Emphasis was laid on improving the efficiency of the coal value chain while ensuring quality enhancement and timely infrastructure development

Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Government of India, chaired a high-level review meeting on the reform initiatives of Coal India Limited at the company’s Corporate Office in Kolkata.
The meeting focused on accelerating transformational reforms aimed at enhancing coal production, productivity, and operational efficiency across Coal India and its subsidiaries. Key areas of discussion included augmenting coal supplies, improving coal quality, expediting First Mile Connectivity (FMC) projects, enhancing and optimally utilizing coal washing capacities, promoting coal gasification projects, fast-tracking technological innovations, and implementing robust cost optimization and expenditure control measures.
The review underscored the Ministry of Coal’s commitment to strengthening India’s energy security through sustainable and technology-driven growth in the coal sector. Emphasis was laid on improving the efficiency of the coal value chain while ensuring quality enhancement and timely infrastructure development.
The meeting was attended by B. Sairam, Sanjeev Kumar Kassi, Director (HR) Dr. Vinay Ranjan, Director (Marketing) Mukesh Choudhary, Director (Finance) Mukesh Agrawal, Director (Technical) Achyut Ghatak, Director (Business Development) Asheesh Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer Brajesh Kumar Tripathy, along with other senior officials.
The review meeting reflects Coal India’s ongoing efforts to modernize its operations, improve efficiency, and align with the Government of India’s vision of a technologically advanced and self-reliant energy sector.
