PESB Rejects All Candidates for Cochin Shipyard CMD Post
Leadership Vacuum Deepens as CMD Selection Moves to SCSC Route

the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has rejected all candidates who appeared for the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Cochin Shipyard Limited, leaving the top position vacant.
The move comes following the superannuation of former CMD Madhu S. Nair, who stepped down after completing a notable 10-year tenure at the helm of the shipbuilding PSU.
Candidates Found Unsuitable
According to sources, two senior officials who appeared before PESB for the interview were:
- Dr. Harikrishnan S
- Biju George
However, PESB did not find either candidate suitable for the top post.
Next Step: SCSC Route Likely
In its official communication, PESB stated that it has not recommended any candidate and has advised the Administrative Ministry/Department to explore alternative routes for selection.
This includes referring the matter to the Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) or adopting any other appropriate mechanism with the approval of the competent authority.
Leadership Vacuum at Strategic PSU
Cochin Shipyard Limited plays a critical role in India’s shipbuilding and ship repair sector, including defence and commercial projects. The absence of a full-time CMD at a time of expanding maritime ambitions could impact strategic decision-making.
