Kashi Vishwanath Temple: Digital Lockers to Transform Pilgrim Experience

From mobile phones and handbags to full-sized suitcases, the lockers will accommodate a wide range of items

In a major step towards enhancing pilgrim convenience, the government led by Yogi Adityanath is set to install digital luggage lockers around the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and nearby ghats, ensuring visitors can safely store their belongings while they perform rituals or explore the city.

This initiative aims to eliminate a long-standing concern for pilgrims—the safety of personal belongings during temple visits and while taking a holy dip in the Ganga River.

225 Smart Lockers Across Key Locations

The Varanasi Municipal Corporation plans to install 225 digital lockers in four sizes—small, medium, large, and extra-large—across high-footfall areas, including:

  • Dashashwamedh Ghat Plaza
  • Godaulia
  • Town Hall Varanasi
  • Beniabag Parking

From mobile phones and handbags to full-sized suitcases, the lockers will accommodate a wide range of items.

Digital India Meets Ancient Kashi

Highlighting the blend of tradition and technology, the initiative reflects how Digital India is reshaping even the oldest living city in the world.

Pilgrims will be able to:

  • Store valuables securely
  • Use digital payment options for seamless access
  • Move freely across ghats and temples without worry

Boost to Pilgrim Convenience and Tourism

According to Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal, the project is designed to improve crowd management, enhance security, and elevate the overall pilgrimage experience in Varanasi.

With this move, visiting Kashi becomes not just a spiritual journey, but also a hassle-free, tech-enabled experience, allowing devotees to focus entirely on devotion and exploration.
