Government Ensures Uninterrupted LPG & Fuel Supply; No Dry-Outs Reported Amid West Asia Crisis

The Government of India has assured uninterrupted supply of LPG and petroleum products across the country, even as global concerns persist due to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) confirmed that domestic requirements remain fully met, with no reports of stock depletion at LPG distributorships.

Strong Domestic Supply, No Shortages

The government has prioritized LPG supply to domestic households, ensuring 100% availability for Domestic LPG, PNG, and CNG (transport). Officials stated that there have been no instances of dry-outs at LPG distributorships nationwide.

To maintain discipline and prevent hoarding, Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have intensified vigilance:

• 274 LPG distributorships inspected
• 67 distributorships suspended for irregularities

Additionally, 9 LPG vessels and 1 crude oil vessel have safely transited the Strait of Hormuz since February 28, 2026, reinforcing supply stability.

PNG Expansion Gains Momentum

The push toward cleaner fuel alternatives continues:

• 5.01 lakh PNG connections already activated
• 5.68 lakh new customers registered since March 2026

The government has advised industries, especially dairy units, to gradually transition from LPG to PNG wherever feasible.

Support for Dairy Sector Secured

To ensure uninterrupted dairy operations, MoPNG has mandated:

• 70% supply of pre-March LPG allocation to critical sectors like dairy processing

Concerns related to packaging materials have also been addressed through the Joint Working Group on Petrochemicals:

• Allocation of 0.23 TMT of LDPE
• Continued supply assurance of polypropylene and polystyrene

A nationwide review meeting held on April 20, 2026, with State Milk Federations confirmed no disruption in fuel or packaging supply.

A dedicated digital monitoring portal, launched on March 30, is enabling real-time tracking of:

• Milk supply chains
• Fuel availability
• Packaging material distribution

Export Facilitation Measures

To ease trade logistics, the government has introduced a simplified animal quarantine clearance procedure (effective March 25, 2026), facilitating smoother return of exported cargo to Indian ports.

Government Measures to Stabilize Supply

The government has implemented multiple demand and supply-side interventions:

• Increased refinery output
• Extended LPG refill intervals (21→25 days urban; up to 45 days rural)
• Prioritized supply to critical sectors such as hospitals, pharma, agriculture, and manufacturing
• Doubled supply of 5 kg LPG cylinders for migrant workers

Alternate fuels like kerosene and coal have also been mobilized. The Coal India Limited and Singareni Collieries Company Limited have been directed to supply additional coal to states.

Public Advisory Issued

The government has urged citizens to remain calm and avoid panic buying:

• Do not stockpile petrol, diesel, or LPG
• Rely only on official sources for updates
• Use digital platforms for LPG booking
• Adopt alternative fuels like PNG and induction cooking
• Practice energy conservation
