Hardeep Singh Puri Discusses Green Hydrogen Partnership with Germany’s Thuringia

Discussions focus on collaboration in green hydrogen technologies as India accelerates its clean energy transition and energy self-sufficiency goals

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri held a productive meeting with Mr. Mario Voigt, Minister-President of the German state of Thuringia, and a high-level industry delegation led by him, exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation in green hydrogen and clean energy technologies between India and Germany.

During the discussions, both sides deliberated on potential partnerships between Indian and German companies as India advances rapidly towards achieving energy self-sufficiency through a diversified and sustainable energy mix. Green hydrogen emerged as a key area of focus, given its growing importance in the global energy transition and decarbonization efforts.

Known as the “Green Heart” of Germany, Thuringia is increasingly establishing itself as a leading hub for green hydrogen production and hydrogen-based technologies. The state has been actively promoting innovation and industrial development in the hydrogen ecosystem, making it a valuable partner for India’s ambitious clean energy agenda.

Highlighting India’s commitment to achieving its climate and energy goals, Shri Puri noted that green hydrogen will play a transformative role in reducing carbon emissions, strengthening energy security, and supporting the country’s vision of becoming energy self-reliant.

The meeting explored possibilities for collaboration in technology development, research and innovation, industrial partnerships, investment opportunities, and knowledge exchange in the green hydrogen sector. Both sides recognized the immense potential for leveraging their respective strengths to accelerate the adoption of clean energy solutions.

The engagement reflects the growing strategic partnership between India and Germany in the fields of sustainable energy, climate action, and advanced technologies. As both nations intensify their efforts towards a low-carbon future, cooperation in green hydrogen is expected to emerge as a significant pillar of bilateral economic and technological collaboration.
