Haridwar Ganga Corridor: CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Launches ₹235 Crore Infrastructure Projects Ahead of Maha Kumbh 2027

In a significant step towards transforming Haridwar into a modern, safe, well-organised and world-class spiritual city, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday performed the Bhoomi Pujan and foundation stone laying ceremony for four major infrastructure projects worth approximately ₹235 crore under the ambitious Haridwar Ganga Corridor.

The projects, being implemented by the Uttarakhand Investment and Infrastructure Development Board (UIIDB), are expected to significantly strengthen preparations for Maha Kumbh 2027, improve facilities for millions of pilgrims visiting Haridwar throughout the year, and boost the region’s tourism-driven economy.

Four Key Projects Worth ₹235 Crore

The Chief Minister inaugurated the Administrative Road Corridor Development Project costing ₹43.25 crore and laid foundation stones for three additional projects:

• Har Ki Pauri and Subhash Ghat Redevelopment – ₹66.76 crore
• Infrastructure Development North of Har Ki Pauri – ₹66.34 crore
• Rodi Belwala Area Redevelopment – ₹58.84 crore

Collectively, these projects aim to enhance crowd management, improve civic infrastructure, strengthen safety measures, and provide better amenities for devotees, especially during large religious gatherings.

Focus on Maha Kumbh 2027

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dhami said the projects form part of the state’s larger vision of developing Haridwar into a globally recognised spiritual and cultural destination.

He said the government is committed not merely to laying foundation stones but to ensuring timely completion of projects with transparency and quality.

“The upcoming Maha Kumbh 2027 will be one of the biggest celebrations of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Our objective is to make it the safest, grandest and best-managed Maha Kumbh in history,” the Chief Minister said.

Modern Infrastructure for Pilgrims

The projects will introduce several modern facilities, including:

• Expansion of bathing areas at Dhanush Ghat
• Construction of Dhanush Bridge
• Development of Aastha Path
• Boardwalk Bridge along the Ganga
• Improved pedestrian pathways
• Advanced crowd management systems
• Emergency evacuation infrastructure
• Enhanced surveillance systems
• Modern lighting
• Improved drainage
• Better parking facilities
• Public conveniences and civic amenities

These improvements are expected to facilitate smoother movement of devotees during Maha Kumbh, Kanwar Yatra and other major religious events.

Haridwar-Rishikesh Ganga Corridor Vision

Chief Minister Dhami said the Haridwar-Rishikesh Ganga Corridor is part of a broader strategy to preserve Uttarakhand’s cultural heritage while creating world-class infrastructure.

He highlighted several other flagship initiatives under development, including:

• Kedarkhand Temple Mala Mission
• Manaskhand Temple Mala Mission
• Sharda Corridor
• Goljju Corridor
• Vivekananda Corridor

According to him, these projects are aimed not only at beautifying temples but also at generating employment opportunities and improving facilities for pilgrims.

Mega Infrastructure Push Before Maha Kumbh

The Chief Minister said multiple infrastructure projects are progressing simultaneously across Haridwar, including:

• Construction of new ghats
• New bridges
• Widening of major roads
• Modern traffic management systems
• Bahadrabad-SIDCUL to Shivalik Nagar road expansion
• New Roh River bridge
• Road strengthening from Patanjali Yogpeeth to Ferupur

These projects are designed to ensure seamless movement for the millions expected to attend Maha Kumbh 2027.

Tourism, Healthcare and Urban Development

Dhami said Haridwar is being developed not only as a religious destination but also as a major centre for education, healthcare, tourism and modern infrastructure.

Among the ongoing projects are:

• Haridwar Medical College nearing completion
• Model Degree College at Laldhang
• Health Centre at Shyampur
• Heliport development
• Pod Taxi Project
• Ropeway connecting Har Ki Pauri with Maa Chandi Devi and Maa Mansa Devi temples
• Bridges in the Laldhang area
• Recreation zone under the Shankaracharya Flyover
• Parking facilities, parks and commercial complex beneath the Moti Chur Flyover

Permanent Development of Kanwar Route

The Chief Minister said the state government has shifted from temporary arrangements during the annual Kanwar Yatra to permanent infrastructure development along the Kanwar route.

He said the objective is to provide safe, efficient and modern facilities for the crores of Kanwar pilgrims visiting Uttarakhand every year.
