Hindustan Copper Gets New CMD: Anupam Mishra to Lead ₹7,189-Crore Vision 2030 Expansion Drive
Anupam Mishra to take charge from July 1, 2026, as Hindustan Copper pursues its ₹7,189-crore Vision 2030 strategy to triple ore production capacity

State-owned copper producer Hindustan Copper Limited has appointed Anupam Mishra as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). Mishra will assume charge on July 1, 2026, at a crucial juncture when the company is pursuing an ambitious expansion strategy aimed at significantly enhancing India’s domestic copper production capacity.
The appointment is expected to provide fresh momentum to the company’s ₹7,189-crore Vision 2030 programme, which seeks to position Hindustan Copper as a key contributor to India’s growing demand for the strategic metal.
Vision 2030: Target to Triple Ore Production
Under its Vision 2030 roadmap, Hindustan Copper plans to increase its ore production capacity from the current 4.21 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 12.20 MTPA by 2030. The expansion programme involves a planned investment of approximately ₹7,189 crore and focuses on scaling up mining and beneficiation operations across the company’s major units.
Key projects under the expansion plan include:
- Malanjkhand Copper Project
- Khetri Copper Complex
- Indian Copper Complex
The projects are expected to strengthen India’s domestic copper supply chain and reduce dependence on imports at a time when global demand for the metal continues to rise.
Copper Demand Set for Strong Growth
Industry analysts expect copper consumption to witness robust growth over the next decade, driven by expanding investments in electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy infrastructure, data centres, artificial intelligence-driven technologies, battery manufacturing and transmission networks.
Copper is considered a critical mineral for the energy transition, with demand projected to increase substantially as countries accelerate decarbonisation efforts and invest in clean energy ecosystems.
Against this backdrop, Hindustan Copper’s capacity expansion assumes strategic significance for India’s industrial and energy security objectives.
Experienced PSU Leader Takes Charge
Before his appointment as CMD of Hindustan Copper, Anupam Mishra served as Director (Marketing) at Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited. He brings more than three decades of experience across public sector enterprises and international business operations.
