IIM Jammu Trains NBCC Managers in Advanced Leadership Skills Under Executive Development Programme
Three-day executive programme focuses on strategic leadership, decision-making and managerial excellence for NBCC officers

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu has launched the second batch of its three-day Executive Development Programme (EDP) on “Leadership Skills for Managers” for officers of NBCC (India) Limited, reinforcing its commitment to building leadership capabilities in India’s public sector.
The programme, being conducted from July 16 to 18, 2026, is organised by IIM Jammu’s Executive Education and Consultancy Division and is aimed at equipping managers with contemporary leadership skills, strategic decision-making abilities and modern management practices to address the evolving challenges of the corporate environment.
Twenty officers from NBCC are participating in the programme, which commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony at the IIM Jammu campus.
The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Jabir Ali and attended by Dr. Debasis Satapathy, Prof. Rajesh Sikka, and programme directors Dr. Ateeque Shaikh and Dr. Shivani Sachdev.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Debasis Satapathy stressed the importance of leadership transformation and continuous learning in professional growth. He observed that as professionals move into senior roles, leadership and managerial competencies become more critical than technical expertise.
Drawing upon the concept of the Four Stages of Competence, he explained how structured learning enables professionals to progress from unconscious incompetence to conscious competence. Using examples inspired by the Mahabharata, he encouraged participants to embrace challenges, move beyond their comfort zones and cultivate a lifelong learning mindset to become effective leaders.
He also shared encouraging feedback from the first batch of the programme and expressed confidence that the current participants would derive significant value from the training.
Prof. Jabir Ali urged participants to approach the programme with curiosity and an open mind. He said the curriculum had been carefully designed to expose managers to diverse management perspectives, emerging leadership practices and strategic thinking that extend beyond traditional classroom learning.
He encouraged officers to actively interact with faculty members and fellow participants to maximise learning and develop a broader outlook towards leadership and organisational effectiveness.
Prof. Rajesh Sikka highlighted IIM Jammu’s expanding collaboration with government organisations and public sector enterprises through customised executive education programmes. He said the institute offers a wide range of Management Development Programmes tailored to the specific learning needs of public sector undertakings, government departments and corporate organisations, ensuring meaningful organisational impact.
Programme Director Dr. Ateeque Shaikh provided an overview of the course structure, explaining that the curriculum combines academic excellence with practical insights to strengthen participants’ leadership and managerial capabilities.
The inaugural session also featured self-introductions by the NBCC participants, who shared their professional backgrounds and expectations from the programme, fostering an environment of collaboration and peer learning.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shivani Sachdev, followed by the National Song, National Anthem and a group photograph, marking the beginning of three days of intensive leadership development and executive learning.
IIM Jammu said such executive education initiatives continue to strengthen its role in developing future-ready leaders for India’s public sector by equipping professionals with the knowledge, strategic perspective and leadership skills required to drive organisational excellence.
