Indian Overseas Bank Joins Forces With PM SURAJ: Empowering Marginalized Communities
The event covered 500+ selected districts in the country, while in the state of Tamil Nadu, all 38 districts were covered during the event
Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the online PMSURAJ (Pradan Mantri Samajik Utthan and Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan) Portal on 13.03.2024. The focus of the GOI is on the Economic Empowerment of marginalized sections of society, including SC, OBC, Senior Citizens, Transgender individuals, and Sanitation workers. Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) stands at the forefront of this initiative, collaborating to uplift these communities.
Concessional finance is provided to SC entrepreneurs under the Economic Welfare of Youth of Marginalized Sections to ensure the safety and dignity of sanitation workers under the Welfare of Sanitation Workers, prohibiting discrimination in the fields of education, employment, healthcare, etc., and providing support for marginalized individuals for livelihood and enterprise under Welfare of Senior Citizens. The Hon’ble PM also interacted with a few beneficiaries from various parts of the country.
The event covered 500+ selected districts in the country, while in the state of Tamil Nadu, all 38 districts were covered during the event. A total of 12,438 beneficiaries benefited from the scheme during the event conducted in the state on 13.03.2024. The program was attended at Tiruppur by Thiru R N Ravi, Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu. At Madurai by Shri. Venkatesan, Hon’ble Chairman, National Commission for Safai Karmachari, at Madurai.
At Chennai, the program was attended by Thiru. Dhanaraj T, ED, Indian Overseas Bank, Thiru. T N Venkatesh, IAS, Ex-officio Managing Director, Backward Classes Welfare, Smt.Rashmi Siddharth Zagade, IAS, Chennai District Collector, and Thiru Mohan M, General Manager, Indian Overseas Bank & Convenor SLBC -TN. Besides, the program was attended by senior-level officials from various banks in all the districts, and sanction letters under various Government schemes were handed over to the beneficiaries.
