Jewar Airport: Flight Date Finalised; Get Ready to Take Off

According to official sources, May 30 has been set as the final date, and flights will begin around this date under all circumstances

The formal inauguration of Jewar Airport took place on March 28, 2026. Ever since the inauguration, a key question remained: when will commercial flights for the general public begin from Jewar Airport? That question has now been answered. The date was finalized during the board meeting of Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), the company operating the airport, held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

Operations to Begin from May 30, 2026

Several important decisions were taken during the YIAPL board meeting. The most significant among them was that commercial flight operations for the general public will commence from May 30, 2026. By then, all required security clearances are expected to be obtained.

According to official sources present at the meeting, May 30 has been set as the final date, and flights will begin around this date under all circumstances.

Company to Replace Its Foreign CEO

In a major development, sources within YIAPL have revealed that the company has decided to replace its current foreign CEO, Christoph Schnellmann, with an Indian national.

The decision comes after it was found that regulatory approval for flight operations from the Ministry of Home Affairs was being delayed because the CEO of the operating company is a foreign national. While the company could have appealed for a change in the rules, that process would have taken considerable time. To avoid delays, YIAPL has decided to appoint an Indian CEO.

No Permission if CEO is a Foreign National

It is important to note that the Government of India places the highest priority on national security. Regardless of the scale of investment or importance of a project, security norms are not compromised.

As per existing regulations, if the top executive of an airport operating company is a foreign national, permission for flight operations may not be granted. Since YIAPL’s current CEO, Christoph Schnellmann, is a foreign citizen, approvals were pending.

With the decision to appoint an Indian CEO, the company is expected to receive the necessary permissions from the Government of India soon after the new CEO is announced.
