NABARD, NSDC Launch ‘Gramodyam’ to Create 4,000 Rural Entrepreneurs in Three Years

Digital-first entrepreneurship programme to provide training, mentorship, credit facilitation and market linkages for rural youth across India

In a major initiative aimed at strengthening India’s rural enterprise ecosystem, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has launched Gramodyam, a comprehensive Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) designed to nurture rural entrepreneurs and promote sustainable economic growth.

The programme was launched by Dr. Shaji K. V., Chairman, NABARD, on the occasion of NABARD’s 45th Foundation Day. Gramodyam is being implemented in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), with the Institute for Industrial Development (IID) serving as the implementation partner.

Empowering Rural Youth Through Entrepreneurship

Gramodyam is dedicated to identifying and nurturing aspiring entrepreneurs from rural India by equipping them with entrepreneurial competencies, industry-relevant skills, and access to critical support systems. The initiative seeks to transform innovative ideas into sustainable business ventures, creating self-employment opportunities while generating local employment and strengthening rural economies.

Digital-First Hybrid Delivery Model

The programme adopts a digital-first hybrid approach to ensure nationwide outreach across all States and Union Territories. Beneficiaries will be mobilised through digital platforms, social media campaigns, community outreach and on-ground engagement.

Participants will undergo a structured entrepreneurial development journey that includes:

  • Psychometric assessments
  • Career counselling
  • Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) training
  • Industry-specific skill development
  • Business mentoring
  • Enterprise establishment support

This end-to-end approach ensures continuous guidance from business ideation to enterprise creation.

Comprehensive Enterprise Support

Unlike conventional skill development initiatives, Gramodyam provides integrated support covering every stage of enterprise development. The programme includes:

  • Business opportunity identification
  • Preparation of business plans
  • Enterprise management training
  • Credit facilitation
  • Market linkages
  • Mentorship
  • Post-establishment handholding

The objective is to build sustainable rural enterprises capable of contributing to inclusive economic development and community prosperity.

Target of 4,000 Rural Entrepreneurs

During its pilot phase, Gramodyam aims to facilitate the establishment of approximately 4,000 rural enterprises over the next three years through a scalable implementation model.

To ensure transparency, every beneficiary will undergo e-KYC verification through NSDC before joining the programme.

End-to-End Credit Facilitation

One of the programme’s key strengths is its comprehensive credit facilitation framework. Participants will receive assistance in:

  • Preparing bankable Detailed Project Reports (DPRs)
  • Accessing loans from NABARD-supported Regional Rural Banks and other financial institutions
  • Digital loan application support
  • Guidance on government schemes and incentives

This framework is expected to significantly improve access to formal finance while reducing barriers to entrepreneurship.

Digital Monitoring and Impact Assessment

Gramodyam will be integrated with NSDC’s digital platform, enabling real-time monitoring of participant progress from enrolment to enterprise growth.

The programme will track key performance indicators including:

  • Candidate mobilisation
  • Gender inclusion
  • Training completion
  • Certification
  • GST registration
  • UDYAM registration
  • Enterprise operationalisation
  • Business sales performance

The robust monitoring framework is expected to ensure accountability while measuring the programme’s long-term socio-economic impact.

Supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat

By combining entrepreneurship development, skill enhancement, digital innovation, financial inclusion and market connectivity, Gramodyam aims to create a new generation of rural entrepreneurs capable of driving inclusive growth and strengthening India’s rural economy.

The initiative aligns with the Government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047, positioning entrepreneurship as a key driver of rural transformation and sustainable development.
