NCL Launches Second Phase of ‘Nanha-Sa-Dil’

Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), the Singrauli-based subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has launched the second phase of its flagship CSR initiative ‘Nanha-Sa-Dil–NCL’, aimed at providing timely screening, diagnosis and free cardiac treatment to children from economically weaker and underserved families.

On Friday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between NCL and Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust for implementation of the second phase. The initiative will cover children across Singrauli and nearby regions, including Sidhi and Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, and Sonbhadra and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

Franklin Jayakumar, Director (HR) Manish Kumar, Director (Technical) Asutosh Dwivedi, CVO NCL Ajay Kumar Jaiswal, GM (CSR) Rajiv Ranjan, CMS NCL Dr Vivek Khare, Technical Secretary to Director (Technical) Indranil Ray and Ravi Kiran Shreepada from Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust, along with other officials, were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the launch, N. Franklin Jayakumar described ‘Nanha-Sa-Dil’ as an impactful and purposeful CSR initiative embodying the philosophy of “Mining with Purpose – Khanan Dil Se.” He said the initiative is reaching children in need and providing critical medical support to families who require it most. He reaffirmed NCL’s commitment to continuing innovative CSR initiatives.

With a total project outlay of ₹9.17 crore, the second phase will organise 700 screening camps targeting 52,500 children. It will also facilitate 1,600 echocardiograms and 500 cardiac surgeries/interventions for children diagnosed with congenital heart disease (CHD).

Screening activities will be conducted close to beneficiaries’ homes through schools, Anganwadi centres and health facilities, enabling early identification and timely referral of children requiring specialised cardiac care.

The second phase will run for 24 months, covering screening, treatment and follow-up support for identified beneficiaries.

During the launch ceremony, beneficiaries of the first phase of the ‘Nanha-Sa-Dil–NCL’ CSR initiative and their families were also present. NCL and Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust presented them with a ‘Gift of Life’, symbolising renewed hope and the promise of a healthier future.

First Phase Exceeded Targets

The first phase of ‘Nanha-Sa-Dil–NCL’, implemented from March 2025 to August 2026 across the Singrauli region of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, exceeded its targets by a wide margin.

Against a target of 345 screening camps covering 17,250 children, the programme organised 534 camps and screened 38,315 children, achieving 155% and 222% of the respective targets.

The programme also conducted 909 echocardiograms against a target of 405, while 300 cardiac surgeries and interventions were successfully completed.

NCL supported beneficiaries throughout the treatment journey, including counselling, travel, accommodation, surgery and post-treatment care. At specialised hospitals, including Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospitals, children from economically weaker and underserved families received cardiac surgeries and interventions free of cost.

For these children and their families, ‘Nanha-Sa-Dil’ has gone beyond medical treatment, bringing hope, renewed smiles and the opportunity for a healthier future.
