NTPC Floats EPC Tender for 15 MW Floating Solar Project with 60 MWh Battery Storage in Mauritius

The deadline for submission of bids is December 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM IST

NTPC Limited has invited international bids for developing a 15 MW floating solar photovoltaic project integrated with a 60 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Tamarind Falls Reservoir in Mauritius, expanding the Indian power major’s footprint in overseas renewable energy infrastructure.

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) tender has been issued on behalf of NTPC (Mauritius) Energy Limited. The project combines floating solar generation with battery storage to support more reliable electricity supply and improve the availability of renewable power. <escape>Tender details</escape>

12 MW Battery System to Support Solar Generation

The proposed installation will comprise a 15 MW floating solar PV plant and a battery energy storage system rated at 12 MW/60 MWh. The battery system is designed to store electricity and help manage fluctuations in solar generation, enabling more dependable power delivery.

The project will be grid-connected, with the EPC contractor responsible for the complete development of the facility, including design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, transportation, installation, testing and commissioning.

The integration of battery storage with floating solar generation is a key feature of the project, helping address the intermittent nature of solar power and supporting the delivery of electricity when generation varies.

Long-Term Maintenance Included in Tender

NTPC has included post-commissioning maintenance obligations in the tender to support the plant’s long-term performance.

The scope includes three years of operation and maintenance (O&M) for the solar power plant, an annual maintenance contract for critical equipment, and a 12-year comprehensive annual maintenance contract for the battery energy storage system.

The tender also specifies financial safeguards for bidders, including an earnest money deposit (EMD) of ₹2 crore or its equivalent of US$207,600, alongside contract performance security and additional bank guarantees for system integration.

Bidding Schedule and Deadlines

According to the tender schedule, the invitation for bids was issued on October 15, 2026. Bid documents will be available from October 26, while the pre-bid conference is scheduled for November 12, 2026.

The deadline for submission of bids is December 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM IST. Technical and commercial bids are scheduled to open on December 8, 2026, at 3:30 PM IST. The opening of price bids will be announced separately following the evaluation of the initial submissions.

NTPC Expands Its Renewable Energy Capabilities Overseas

The Mauritius project highlights the role of Indian public sector enterprises in developing renewable energy infrastructure beyond domestic markets. By combining floating solar capacity with battery storage, NTPC is pursuing an integrated approach to clean power generation and energy management.

Floating solar installations can make productive use of reservoir surfaces, while battery storage can help improve the flexibility and dispatchability of renewable electricity. The proposed project at Tamarind Falls brings these two technologies together in a single grid-connected installation.

The tender marks a further step in NTPC’s international renewable energy activities, with project execution and commissioning dependent on the bidding process and subsequent contract award.
