Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today dedicated NTPC’s Unit#01 (660 MW) of North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project to the nation. Located in in Chatra district of Jharkhand, the total envisaged capacity of the project is 1980 MW.

This is country’s first Supercritical Thermal Power Project conceived with Air Cooled Condenser (ACC) of such large magnitude which reduces water consumption to 1/3rd in comparison to conventional Water-Cooled Condensers.

This pit-head project will supply the majority of the power generated to Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal, thereby ensuring 24×7 availability of quality power at an affordable cost for eastern part of the country.

While the project is creating direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region, various Community Development initiatives are being taken up by NTPC in areas, such as Education, Drinking water, Sanitation, Health and Women Empowerment etc.

The project has further improved the availability of physical infrastructure (like approach roads, drainage, communication, transportation facilities etc.) and social infrastructure (like education and health care system) in the nearby areas.
