The Fifth Extension: Is a PSU CMD Paying His Guru Dakshina to a Former Boss?
We thought the days of Guru-Shishya, or Guru-Chela in rustic parlance, were long gone. Apparently not. The tradition seems to be alive and thriving in a big PSU

A big PSU is reportedly giving extension after extension to one individual – five in all, spread over nearly five years.
The first four reportedly came from the previous CMD. The fifth has now come from the relatively new CMD.
And that is where the gossip gets interesting.
The former CMD, insiders claim, had lobbied hard for the present CMD’s elevation to the plum post, despite several other, reportedly more deserving, candidates being in the fray.
So what better way for the new CMD to express his gratitude than to continue his former boss’s tradition?
Four extensions from the Guru. One more from the Shishya.
PSU corridors have already given it a name:
Guru Dakshina.
And the icing on the cake? The beneficiary is reportedly a PR man.
One would expect the corporate communication department to be busy issuing press releases and telling the world about the PSU’s achievements.
Apparently, not quite.
The grapevine claims that the entire corporate communication team has not issued a single press release to the media in five years.
Five extensions.
Five years.
And zero press releases.
Now that’s what you call PR with a difference.
So - Waah Re Chela!
And who is the benevolent CMD paying his Guru – this Dakshina? Anyone’s Guess!
