Race Starts For The Coveted Post Of CMD NTPC – Who Will Succeed Gurdeep Singh!

More than two dozen applications pour in as the vacancy is publicized, present CMD retires on July 31, 2025

How it started—

NTPC is India’s largest integrated power PSU, dedicated to lighting every corner of the country and building a sustainable future for all. As a leader in the power sector, we are committed to generating efficient and affordable power, aiming to achieve 130 GW by 2032. We embrace a diverse fuel mix, integrating fossil fuels, gas, hydro, nuclear, and renewable sources to minimize our carbon footprint.

Established in 1975, NTPC has played a vital role in India’s economic growth for nearly five decades. With a commitment to operational excellence and adherence to global standards, we are lighting every fourth bulb in the country!

The present Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NTPC Limited, Gurdeep Singh, is scheduled to retire on July 31, 2025. The public-sector head-hunter (PESB) has advertised the post of CMD and is seeking applications from experienced candidates by November 18, 2024.

Highly placed sources told www.indianpsu.com that though the rat race has begun for this top post, keeping in mind the earlier selection criteria, there is a serious possibility of a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) being formed on the insistence of the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB), if they do not find a suitable candidate amongst the applicants.

Sources add that Gurdeep Singh, the present CMD, has had quite a remarkable tenure with NTPC and he could well be given an extension, as was earlier granted to S.M. Vaidya in Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and again to Mallika Srinivasan as the head of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB).
