Rahul Himalian Gets Additional Charge of IRCTC CMD After Sanjay Kumar Jain’s Resignation
Himalian assumes additional charge as CMD of IRCTC from July 20, 2026, while continuing as Director (Tourism & Marketing)
The Ministry of Railways has entrusted Rahul Himalian, Director (Tourism & Marketing) at the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), with the additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) following the resignation of Sanjay Kumar Jain. The appointment comes into effect from July 20, 2026, ensuring continuity in the leadership of the Navratna public sector enterprise.
Rahul Himalian, a 1999-batch Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer, brings over 26 years of experience across Indian Railways and IRCTC. He has been serving as a Whole-Time Functional Director on the IRCTC Board since February 16, 2024, overseeing key verticals including Tourism, Information Technology, Human Resource Development, Infrastructure, Administration and Rajbhasha.
With the additional responsibility as CMD, Himalian will lead the overall operations and strategic direction of IRCTC while continuing to discharge his duties as Director (Tourism & Marketing). The move is aimed at ensuring seamless administrative and operational continuity until a regular CMD is appointed.
Known for his customer-centric approach and administrative acumen, Himalian has played a significant role in several initiatives aimed at enhancing IRCTC’s services. His leadership has been instrumental in strengthening the corporation’s tourism, digital and marketing operations.
An accomplished academic, Rahul Himalian graduated in Electrical Engineering from NIT Hamirpur, earning a Gold Medal, and completed his post-graduation in Engineering from IIT Delhi with a perfect CGPA of 10.00. He was also honoured with the President’s Gold Medal for being the Best All-Round Student.
The appointment follows the resignation of Sanjay Kumar Jain, whose resignation as CMD was accepted by the Ministry of Railways with effect from July 20, 2026. The transition is expected to ensure uninterrupted leadership at IRCTC, which continues to play a pivotal role in railway ticketing, catering, tourism and hospitality services across India.
