RailTel Bags ₹49.67 Crore Karnataka Intelligent Traffic Management Project

This adds to RailTel’s already strong order pipeline in non-railway ICT infrastructure projects

RailTel Corporation of India has secured a fresh government technology order worth ₹49.67 crore for implementation of an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) for the Karnataka Transport Department, further expanding its growing portfolio in smart mobility and public digital infrastructure projects.

The Navratna PSU informed stock exchanges that it has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Additional Commissioner for Transport, Enforcement (South), Government of Karnataka, for execution of the ITMS project. The total estimated contract value stands at ₹49,67,21,000 including taxes and the project is scheduled for completion by November 3, 2026. RailTel received the LoI on May 4, 2026.

Smart Mobility Order Strengthens RailTel’s Government Tech Presence

The Karnataka project is aimed at deploying advanced digital traffic monitoring, enforcement and transport management systems to improve road safety, surveillance, challan automation and real-time traffic governance.

Industry observers say the order once again underlines RailTel’s increasing emergence as a preferred technology execution partner for central and state government departments in areas such as:

  • intelligent traffic systems,
  • e-governance platforms,
  • communication backbones,
  • surveillance infrastructure, and
  • public digital service delivery.

The latest win also adds to RailTel’s already strong order pipeline in non-railway ICT infrastructure projects, a segment that has been contributing significantly to the PSU’s revenue growth over the past few quarters.

No Related Party Interest, Says Company

RailTel clarified in its regulatory disclosure that the awarding authority is a domestic government entity and that neither the promoter nor promoter group has any financial interest in the awarding authority. The company further stated that the contract does not come under related party transactions.

Expanding Beyond Traditional Railway Telecom

Known initially for its pan-India optic fibre network along railway tracks, RailTel has in recent years aggressively diversified into state government digitisation, smart city communication systems, command-and-control centres, educational dashboards, data centre integration and transport automation.

The Karnataka ITMS project is expected to further consolidate RailTel’s credentials in the rapidly growing intelligent transport and smart governance ecosystem.
