RINL Is Among The First Steel Plants In India To Be Certified For ISO 14001 Standard For Environment : CMD, RINL

World Environment Day celebrated at RINL

World Environment Day was celebrated at the multipurpose hall of Ukkunagaram club of RINL, on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest of the program Sri Atul Bhatt, CMD, RINL said that “All of us should come together to resolve this issue and make planet earth a greener, healthier and happier place to live. The year 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day. This underscores the importance of this World Environment Day in mobilizing transformative action from every corner of the world”.

Highlighting the need to #Beat Plastic Pollution which is the theme of World Environment Day – 2023, Shri Atul Bhatt said that the three ‘R’s can be used to Beat Plastic Pollution: Reuse, Recycle, Reorient – Eliminating unnecessary common plastics such as excessive packaging is the first step, reusing refillable bottles, in addition to enhancing recycling and turning to greener alternatives.

“Coming to RINL, we banned usage of plastic carry bags in 2020. We are working towards plastic free township and encouraging people to use cloth bags. RINL has also distributed cloth bags to villages in and around the township and conducted awareness camps periodically” Shri Atul Bhatt added.

Highlighting RINL’s initiatives towards the environment, Shri Atul Bhatt said that RINL has always emphasised for environmental friendly practices and is among the first Steel plants in India to be certified for ISO 14001 standard for Environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. P. Prasada Rao, Joint Chief Environmental Engineer, APPCB (AP Polution control board), Government of Andhra Pradesh lauded the efforts being taken by RINL towards protection of environment. He appreciated RINL for taking active part along with APPCB (AP Polution control board) and district administration in various activities towards promoting the #Beat Plastic Pollution. Dr. P. Prasada Rao appealed to all to avoid single use plastic and also take measures towards water conservation.

Shri Atul Bhatt, Dr. P.Prasada Rao and Chief General Managers of RINL presented “Green awards” to various departments and individual employees for their significant contribution towards the environment in their respective working areas. Prizes to winners in poster, essay and slogan competitions were also presented by the dignitaries on the occasion.

Shri MSV Krishnaiah, CGM(Services) RINL welcomed the gathering. A powerpoint presentation about various measures adopted at RINL towards environment protection through clean technologies was also presented on the occasion.

Dr. S. C. Pandey, Director (Personnel), RINL, Shri B. K. Mohanty, CGM (Works)I/c, CGMs, Senior Executives, Members from various associations like Steel Executives’ Association, trade Unions, SC & ST Association, OBC Association, WIPS, School Children participated in the program.
