Under G. Kishan Reddy’s Leadership, Coal Gasification Emerging as Key Driver of India’s Energy Self-Reliance: MoS Satish Chandra Dubey

₹37,500-crore Coal Gasification Incentive Scheme to accelerate energy security, industrial growth and job creation under PM Modi’s vision

Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, participated in the Roadshow on Surface Coal and Lignite Gasification Projects held in Hyderabad and emphasized the transformative role of coal gasification in strengthening India’s energy self-reliance and industrial competitiveness.

Addressing officials, industry representatives and other stakeholders, Dubey highlighted the Government of India’s commitment to promoting coal gasification as a strategic pathway for achieving energy security and reducing dependence on imports. He said the initiative aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India self-reliant in the energy sector while creating new opportunities for industrial growth and employment.

The Minister noted that the ₹37,500-crore Coal Gasification Incentive Scheme is a landmark initiative aimed at encouraging investments in coal gasification technologies and the development of value-added products from India’s abundant coal reserves. According to him, the scheme is expected to catalyse innovation, attract private participation and strengthen the country’s energy ecosystem.

“India possesses vast coal resources, and their utilization for producing value-added products will play a crucial role in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat. Coal gasification can significantly contribute to energy security, reduce import dependence, promote industrial development and generate large-scale employment opportunities,” Dubey said.

He further stressed that the coal sector is witnessing a major transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy. The government’s policy initiatives are focused on maximizing the value of domestic coal resources while ensuring sustainable and efficient utilization.

The Hyderabad roadshow served as an important platform for interaction between government officials, industry leaders and potential investors, enabling discussions on technological advancements, policy support and investment opportunities in the coal gasification sector.

The Ministry of Coal has identified coal gasification as a key pillar in India’s long-term energy strategy, with the objective of converting domestic coal resources into cleaner fuels, chemicals and other high-value products. These efforts are expected to contribute significantly towards the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.
