SCOPE’s Interactive Session Decodes New Labour Codes & Central Rules
The workshop was attended by nearly 100 participants from 32 PSUs
SCOPE organised an Interactive Workshop on Labour Law Reforms: Understanding the New Labour Codes & Central Rules with Deloitte as the Knowledge Partner. Dr. Mahendra Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India; Dr. K. P. Mahadevaswamy, Chairman, SCOPE & CMD, NBCC; Atul Sobti, Director General, SCOPE; and the Deloitte team comprising Gokul Chaudhri, President – Tax, and Divya Baweja, Partner, addressed the inaugural session.
The workshop, attended by nearly 100 participants from 32 PSUs and organised as part of SCOPE’s ongoing capacity-building initiative, provided comprehensive guidance on implementing statutory provisions relating to wages, social security, workplace safety and labour-management relations.
In his address, Dr. Mahendra Kumar stated that the recent consolidation of labour laws into four comprehensive labour codes marks a major step towards simplification, transparency and modernisation. He said the reforms aim to strike a careful balance between labour rights and ease of doing business.
Dr. K. P. Mahadevaswamy said that the strength of any major reform lies not only in its legislative architecture but also in the quality of dialogue that accompanies it. He emphasised that continuous engagement among the government, employers and employees is essential for building shared understanding and confidence.
Speaking on the occasion, Atul Sobti described the four codes as a globally appreciated ‘game changer’ that has revolutionised regulatory clarity, efficiency and inclusivity. Highlighting SCOPE’s close partnership with the Ministry of Labour & Employment, he emphasised that mastering these reforms is critical for PSEs given their massive direct and indirect workforce.
The Deloitte team, comprising Gokul Chaudhri and Divya Baweja, said the reforms represent a step in the right direction and would take the country forward from the perspective of labour laws and labour reforms.
Through the Interactive Session, SCOPE reaffirmed its role as a knowledge partner to PSUs in navigating the transition to the new Labour Codes and reiterated its commitment to continued capacity-building programmes on the subject across the country.
Senior officials from the Ministry and PSUs, subject matter experts and the Deloitte team addressed the workshop, providing comprehensive technical guidance and responding to participants’ queries on the implementation of the Labour Codes.
