SECL CMD Harish Duhan Reviews Monsoon Preparedness at Gevra Mega Project, Stresses Safe and Uninterrupted Production
With the onset of the monsoon season, the CMD closely examined pumping stations and drainage infrastructure across the project area

Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Gevra Mega Project on Wednesday to review monsoon preparedness, safety arrangements, and ongoing production activities.
During the visit, the CMD inspected several operational sites, including DEP, KJSL, Dev Mining, Sainik Mining, and PNC Patch, where he assessed coal production and overburden removal operations. He also reviewed the functioning of a 42-cubic-metre shovel and emphasized the importance of maintaining high productivity and operational efficiency.
With the onset of the monsoon season, the CMD closely examined pumping stations and drainage infrastructure across the project area. He directed officials to ensure effective drainage and dewatering systems to prevent waterlogging in mines and facilitate uninterrupted mining operations during heavy rainfall.
Highlighting the significance of safety during the monsoon period, Duhan stated that maintaining production while strictly adhering to safety standards should remain the highest priority. He stressed the need for regular training, continuous monitoring, and further strengthening of a safe work culture across mining operations.
The CMD also reviewed the progress of coal production, productivity levels, overburden removal (OBR), and dispatch activities, issuing necessary instructions to optimize performance and operational readiness.
As part of the visit, Duhan inaugurated a state-of-the-art training simulator installed by GEMCO at the Gevra Workshop for skill development of dumper operators. The simulator is expected to enhance operator competence, improve safety standards, and contribute to greater operational efficiency.
The inspection was attended by Gevra Area General Manager Sanjay Mishra, General Manager (E&M) from SECL Headquarters Shrikant Das, General Manager (Excavation) Deepak Kumar, General Manager (Safety) Prakash Rai, along with other senior officials.
The visit underscores SECL’s commitment to ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted coal production during the monsoon season while strengthening workforce skills through advanced training initiatives.
