SHE POWER to head SAIL for the First Time in its History
Soma Mondal’s appointment is subject to approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). If the ACC gives its approval, she will make history with the rare distinction of being the first woman chairperson of SAIL.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet is yet to approve her appointment and as this happens, Soma Mondal will be the first ever lady to heal Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Anil Chaudhary, the present chairman of the SAIL is due to retire by the end of this year.
In September 2018, Mondal took over as the Director (Commercial) of Steel Authority of India Limited. Soma Mondal has also served as the Director (Commercial), NALCO, Bhubaneswar.
She completed her graduation from the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela in 1984 in Electrical Engineering. She was a Trainee in NALCO and was also involved in various project implementation activities as a part of the Technology Cell.
She is appraised for her notable contribution to the Aluminium Industry and in various Industry forums. She has also designed devising marketing strategies for different products in the Domestic & Oversea market.
She has also been actively involved in the launch of a variety of new products by the company.
Under her direction a few fundamental improvement activities were actualized in Marketing and Materials Management capacities at NALCO. In March 2017, she assumed the Director (Commercial) position as the first woman director of SAIL.
