In a significant leadership development in India’s nuclear power sector, senior Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) scientist P.A. Suresh Babu has assumed charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited at Kalpakkam.
A Strategic Role in India’s Nuclear Future
BHAVINI, a public sector undertaking under the Department of Atomic Energy, plays a pivotal role in advancing India’s fast breeder reactor programme. The company is currently spearheading the 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) project at Kalpakkam, a cornerstone in India’s three-stage nuclear power strategy.
Rich Experience Across Nuclear Projects
Suresh Babu brings over 37 years of extensive experience in the nuclear energy domain. Prior to this appointment, he served as Director (Human Resources) at Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited.
His technical and leadership expertise spans:
- Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs)
- Pressurised Water Reactors (PWRs)
- Human resource and organizational leadership
He began his career at the Madras Atomic Power Station and later played a key role at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, where he served as Station Director.
Strong Academic & Technical Foundation
- Mechanical Engineering graduate from Government Engineering College, Thrissur (1988)
- Completed nuclear training at the BARC Training School in 1989

In addition to his operational roles, Suresh Babu has contributed at the board level:
- Former Chairman of Anushakti Vidyut Nigam Limited
- Board Member at Uranium Corporation of India Limited
