Union Civil Aviation Minister And UP CM Inaugurate New Civil Enclave At Kanpur Airport

Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, and Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, inaugurated a new Civil Enclave at Kanpur Airport. The new terminal building, built at a cost of Rs. 150 crore, covers an area of 6243 sqm, which is 16 times larger than the existing terminal. It has several key features and improvements aimed at enhancing the passenger experience and increasing the airport’s capacity.

Some of the notable features of the new terminal building are as follows:

Enhanced Passenger Capacity: The terminal is equipped to handle 400 passengers during peak hours, a significant increase from the previous capacity of 50 passengers.

Check-in Counters: There are 08 check-in counters available, ensuring efficient and expedited check-in processes for passengers.

Conveyor Belts: The terminal has three conveyor belts, with one located in the Departure Hall and two in the Arrival Hall, facilitating smooth baggage handling and collection.

Concessionaire Area: A spacious concessionaire area covering 850 square meters offers a diverse range of retail and dining options for travelers.

Accessibility Features: Tactile path provisions have been made to ensure accessibility and ease of navigation for passengers with visual impairments.

Parking Facilities: On the city side of the terminal, there are 150 car parking spaces and 02 bus parking spaces, providing ample parking facilities for commuters.

Apron and Taxi Track: The newly developed apron can accommodate parking for three A-321/B-737 types of aircraft. Additionally, a new link Taxi Track measuring 713m X 23m has been constructed.

Sustainability Features: The terminal incorporates various sustainability features, including a double insulated roofing system, provision of canopies for energy-saving, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, use of recycled water for landscaping, and a solar power plant with a capacity of 100 KWp. The terminal aims to achieve GRIHA–IV ratings, denoting sustainable development and responsible resource management.

Cultural Integration: The façade of the Terminal Building showcases the temple architecture of the famous JK Temple of Kanpur. The interiors of the terminal are designed based on various local themes, such as textiles, leather industries, and prominent figures from Kanpur’s history, including poet Shyamlal Gupta and sage Maharishi Valmiki.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Shri. Satish Mahana, Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Shri Rakesh Sachan, Minister of MSME, Ms Pratibha Shukla, Minister of Women and Child Development, Shri Ajit Pal Singh, Minister of Electronic and IT, as well as other senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
