Union Petroleum Minister Lays Foundation Stone Of ONGC-Funded Yatri Niwas In Jammu

ONGC has pledged Rs. 51 crore as part of its extensive CSR initiative to support this project

The construction of the National Disaster Mitigation Centre and Yatri Niwas in Sidhra, Jammu, funded by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Limited, was initiated on June 6, 2023. The foundation stone was laid by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, and the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha. This initiative is in line with the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The ONGC-funded Yatri Niwas aims to address the logistical challenges faced by the large number of tourists visiting Srinagar and Amarnath every year. With accommodation facilities for 30,000 tourists annually, it will help manage the movement of tourists and pilgrims more effectively. This will have a positive impact on the overall tourist experience, particularly for those in need.

The ONGC Disaster Management Centre will serve as a crucial facility for providing essential amenities such as lodging, sanitation, and safe drinking water during emergencies. It will also act as a central hub for distributing vital information and delivering relief measures. The center will contribute to traffic management and ensure a seamless experience for tourists and pilgrims. Furthermore, it will focus on facilitating boarding and lodging facilities for those who require assistance.

The local population, including unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers, artisans, craftsmen, daily wage laborers, street vendors, and weavers, will benefit from the increased footfall resulting from these ONGC-funded facilities.

The construction will take place on a 1.84-acre (8378 square meter) plot, with a built-up area of approximately 1.875 acres (8500 square meters). ONGC’s Corporate Infrastructure Group will oversee the project’s implementation to ensure its timely completion and uphold its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR).

ONGC has pledged Rs. 51 crore as part of its extensive CSR initiative to support this project. This generous contribution showcases ONGC’s steadfast dedication to serving the nation as India’s Energy Maharatna.

The event witnessed the presence of Shri Arun Kumar Singh, the Chairman and CEO of ONGC, along with other esteemed guests. Senior officials from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and ONGC also attended the ceremony.
