Uttarakhand CM Dhami Bats For Establishment Of ‘National Institute Of Disaster Management’ In The State

Along with the arrangement of land, a request will be made to the Central Government for the establishment of NIDM in Uttarakhand

Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the 6th Disaster Management Global Conference by lighting the lamp at Graphic Era University, Clement Town. Experts and scientists from many countries are participating in this conference to be held from 28 November to 01 December 2023. More than 60 technical sessions will be organized in this conference. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also released the book Resilient India based on the experience of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The Chief Minister said that along with arrangement for land, a request will be made to the Central Government to open a ‘National Disaster Management Institute’ in Uttarakhand. Whatever the requirement of the Central Government is for opening this institute in the state, it will be fulfilled by the State Government. The Chief Minister said that special provisions will be made for the disabled and women to face the challenges of disaster in the state. He said that disaster management courses will be included in the universities and educational institutions of the state and workshops will be organized.

Uttarakhand has been the cradle of research, spiritual practice, spirituality, knowledge and science since ancient times.

Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed all the guests from India and abroad in the Sixth World Disaster Management Conference organized in Dronanagari Dehradun. He said that Uttarakhand has been the birthplace of research, spiritual practice, spirituality, knowledge and science since ancient times. From Adi Guru Shankaracharya ji, Guru Nanak Dev ji, Swami Vivekananda ji to Rabindra Nath Tagore ji, many visionaries of the era definitely visited the Himalayas and especially Uttarakhand somewhere in their spiritual journey. He said that this disaster management global conference is important in view of the current situation in the world. Uttarakhand is extremely sensitive to natural disasters. The solution to deal with natural disasters is a proactive approach. Integrated response to natural disasters can reduce damage and loss of life. He said that all the Himalayan states have to face the challenges of natural disasters. The need of the hour is to share the studies, research and experiences happening at the global level in this regard.

The challenges of natural disasters can be faced by developing better coordination and management systems of ecology, economy and technology.

The Chief Minister said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, special attention is being given to works like medical facilities, strong communication system, construction of all-weather roads, heliports, urban planning in the state. Today we are committed to facing disasters. Natural disasters cannot be stopped, but their effects can definitely be reduced by implementing better strategies and systems. With better coordination of ecology, economy and technology, we can develop a better management system to fight natural disasters. Only if we use all the natural resources including the earth instead of consuming it, can we be truly successful in our work of nature conservation.

Dehradun Declaration will prove to be an important document for the hilly areas and the entire world from the point of view of disaster management.

The Chief Minister said that the primary objective of this conference is to discuss and address the challenges of climate change and disaster resilience with a focus on the Himalayan ecosystem and communities. Through this event, a special message in the form of “Dehradun Declaration” will be broadcast from Devbhoomi across the world highlighting the community responsibilities of human society towards nature and its importance in disaster management. He expressed hope that this declaration will prove to be an important document for the mountainous areas and the entire world from the point of view of disaster management. He said that in this conference, subject experts from reputed institutions across the world will brainstorm on the burning challenges related to climate change and disaster and their solutions, which will prove helpful for disaster management in the times to come.

The message of “Safe Investment – ​​Strong Uttarakhand” in Uttarakhand will be broadcasted in the country and abroad through the Global Conference on Disaster Management.

The Chief Minister said that Global Investors Summit-2023 is being organized in Dehradun on 08-09 December. In which industrial groups and investors from India and abroad will participate to accelerate investment in the state of Uttarakhand. The message of “Safe Investment – ​​Strong Uttarakhand” in Uttarakhand will be spread in the country and abroad through the Global Conference on Disaster Management organized just before this conference. He expressed hope that this conference will help in better meeting the challenges posed by disaster management and climate change along with integrated development goals.
