With sustained efforts to boost industrial growth through the Global Investors Summit and Invest UP, the Yogi Adityanath government is transforming Varanasi into a new garment hub. Traditionally celebrated for its Banarasi handloom and silk sarees, the city is now poised to become a global center for readymade garment manufacturing.

In a significant development, production has commenced in four textile and garment projects under the Handloom and Textile Department, involving an investment of ₹61 crore. These operational units have already provided employment to 190 people, with a focus on generating opportunities for women.

Varanasi’s identity as a hub of traditional weaving is being expanded to include state-of-the-art textile production. The next big leap is the establishment of three more units with a combined investment of ₹86 crore. Once operational, these projects are expected to create 1,600 new jobs, with a majority reserved for women workers.

Among the major players is Arvind Limited, a globally renowned company in knitting garments for domestic and export markets. The company is setting up a ₹75 crore factory in Varanasi, which will alone generate 1,500 jobs. Additionally, Banaras Weave Private Limited and Tashi Design Studio are launching new units, further reinforcing Varanasi’s growing reputation as a textile hub.

Operational Units Worth ₹61 Crore — 190 Jobs Created:

  • Vastra Villa India Private Limited – Jacquard, Power & Handloom processing; 50 jobs
  • Shri Maheshwari Enterprises – Weaving, embroidery, and printing; 75 jobs
  • Satyasagar Silk Estates Pvt. Ltd. – Powerloom textile weaving; 55 jobs
  • A.P. Enterprises – Socks manufacturing & knitting; 10 jobs

A highlight of the local entrepreneurship success is A.P. Enterprises, founded by a returnee from Mumbai who chose to establish a garment unit in Varanasi, thanks to the improved law and order and investment-friendly policies of the Yogi government.

Upcoming Projects Worth ₹86 Crore — 1,600 Jobs Expected:

  • Arvind Limited – Knitting garments for domestic & export; 1,500 jobs
  • Banaras Weave Pvt. Ltd. – Handloom & textile; 50 jobs
  • Tashi Design Studio – Handloom & textile; 50 jobs

With these developments, Varanasi is poised to evolve beyond its traditional identity and become a significant player in the modern textile and garment manufacturing sector, creating substantial local employment and empowering women across the region.
