UP Government To Digitize All Revenue Records Before 1990; Selection Of Institution Imminent

Phased digitization to enhance accessibility, ensure long-term preservation of documents

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is taking a major stride towards a digital revolution by preparing to digitize all revenue records predating 1990. The initiative, spearheaded by the Stamp and Registration Department, is part of a comprehensive plan to preserve land and revenue documents in digital form for posterity.

The process of scanning and digitizing old records is already underway in a phased manner. According to a progress report presented to the Chief Minister, by April 2025, nearly 95% of the digitization work for documents dated between 2002 and 2017 has been completed.

Simultaneously, UPDESCO is currently conducting the tendering process for the digitization of records from 1990 to 2001. This will be followed by the third and final phase, which involves digitizing all revenue records created before 1990. An institution will soon be selected to handle the sensitive task of storing and preserving these historical documents permanently.

Once digitized, the physical records will be relocated to the Central Record Room, freeing up substantial space in sub-registrar offices and reducing the burden of managing large volumes of paper files. This step is expected to enhance administrative efficiency and ensure the long-term safety of important legal and property documents.

The digitization initiative will significantly improve access to revenue-related information, benefiting both the public and government departments. Citizens will be able to retrieve land records and other essential documents swiftly and transparently, saving time and reducing dependence on intermediaries.

This move is seen as a key milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s broader goal of becoming a technologically empowered state. Through digital governance, the Yogi Adityanath-led administration continues to modernize public services and bring tangible benefits to the people.
