PM Modi Inaugurates New Residential Complex for MPs in New Delhi

Housing Committee Chairman and Gautam Budh Nagar M.P. Dr. Mahesh Sharma was also present with a host of dignitaries at the event

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 184 newly constructed Type-7 multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, New Delhi. The four towers—named Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and Hooghly—are equipped with modern amenities and incorporate sustainable features, including solar-powered infrastructure.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said the project would ease accommodation challenges for MPs, particularly first-time members, and reduce government expenditure. “When MPs are free from problems related to their residences, they can devote more time and energy to public service,” he said.

PM Modi noted that no new housing units for Lok Sabha MPs were built between 2004 and 2014, whereas about 350 have been constructed since 2014. He highlighted the cost savings from reducing rent on government offices—estimated at ₹1,500 crore annually—through initiatives like the newly inaugurated Kartavya Bhawan.

Drawing parallels between infrastructure for MPs and nationwide development schemes, the Prime Minister said, “The country is not only fulfilling the housing needs of its MPs but also providing home ownership to 4 crore poor families through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.” He also underlined progress in water supply, solar energy, medical education, and the creation of a sustainable future.

PM Modi urged MPs to make the new complex a hub of unity, cultural exchange, and cleanliness, in line with the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. He suggested organising regional festivals, promoting linguistic harmony, and holding cleanliness competitions.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers Manohar Lal and Kiren Rijiju, Housing Committee Chairman Dr. Mahesh Sharma, and several MPs attended the event.
