Telangana Emerging as Global Life Sciences Powerhouse with Investments of Over ₹54,000 Crore Since 2024

These investments are expected to generate over 2 lakh jobs across high-growth areas

Telangana has reaffirmed its position as a global leader in life sciences, attracting over ₹54,000 Crore in investments in the past year alone. With this momentum, Hyderabad has earned a coveted place among the Top 7 life sciences clusters globally — the only Indian city on the list.

Backed by progressive policies, industry-friendly infrastructure, and strong public-private partnerships, Telangana has drawn cumulative investments across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, cell and gene therapy, medical devices, vaccines, and digital health since the formation of the new Government. These investments are expected to generate over 2 lakh jobs across high-growth areas such as sterile injectables, biosimilars, biologics, AI/ML, and advanced healthcare services.

The developments were reviewed at the Board Meeting of Telangana Life Sciences, chaired by D. Sridhar Babu, Minister for IT, Industries & Commerce, Electronics & Communications, and Legislative Affairs. The meeting was attended by Mr. Sanjay Kumar, IAS (Special Chief Secretary), Mr. Shashanka, IAS (VC & MD, TGIIC), Mr. Shakthi M. Nagappan (CEO, Telangana Lifesciences), Mr. Satish Reddy (Chairman, DRL), Mr. Satya Chava (Chairman, Laurus Labs), among others.

Speaking on the occasion, D. Sridhar Babu said: “Telangana has emerged as a global epicentre for innovation-led life sciences and is now home to over 2,000 companies. Hyderabad’s recognition among the Top 7 global life sciences clusters is a direct outcome of our progressive policies, robust infrastructure, and deep talent base. This is a collective achievement, and I congratulate the entire ecosystem for this remarkable progress.”

The Minister also directed that the proposed Telangana School of Life Sciences be developed as a world-class university with cutting-edge research, innovation, and training facilities, further strengthening the state’s global leadership.

Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem is today valued at over $80 billion, hosting the highest number of USFDA-approved sites (250+) worldwide. Hyderabad is home to 20+ Life Sciences and MedTech incubators, backed by 40 national research and academic institutions, making it one of the most dynamic and future-ready destinations for research, manufacturing, and innovation.

Commenting on the state’s rapid progress, Mr. Shakthi Nagappan, CEO, Telangana Lifesciences, said: “Hyderabad is already home to 8 of the world’s Top 10 big pharma companies, and we are confident of bringing the remaining two here soon under the leadership of the Hon’ble CM and Hon’ble Minister. With the upcoming Telangana Life Sciences Policy, we are laying the foundation for a $250 billion life sciences economy by 2030.”

As part of the review, the Board also discussed the upgradation of Genome Valley, MedTech Park, and other strategic hubs, along with the draft Telangana Life Sciences Policy, which will further catalyze growth through incentives, talent development, infrastructure upgrades, and sustainability initiatives.

With its unmatched mix of policy support, infrastructure strength, global partnerships, and talent pool, Telangana is on course to establish itself as the Life Sciences Capital of Asia.
