Fly Ash Management in Focus as Railways & NTPC Bring Together Key Stakeholders in Noida

India Generated 340 Million Tonnes of Fly Ash in 2024–25, Utilised Over 332 Million Tonnes

The Ministry of Railways and NTPC Limited jointly convened the National Conference on Fly Ash Utilisation and Transportation at the Power Management Institute, Noida, bringing together fly ash generators, users, transporters, and policymakers to frame strategies for sustainable fly ash management in India.

In FY 2024–25, India generated 340.11 million tonnes of fly ash, of which 332.63 million tonnes were successfully utilised—a utilisation rate that underscores India’s growing commitment to the circular economy, cost-efficient growth, and environmental sustainability.

Key Utilisation Segments (2024–25)

  • Roads & Flyovers: 32%
  • Cement Industry: 27%
  • Bricks & Tiles: 14%
  • Backfilling: 11%
  • Mine Filling: 10%
  • Agriculture & RMC: 1–2%

The Indian Railways is enabling large-scale, sustainable fly ash movement through attractive freight concessions, providing both a green transport solution and a cost-effective logistics option for industries. With significant capacity to expand its role, the Railways is set to become a central partner in India’s fly ash utilisation mission.
