Uttarakhand CM Dhami Seeks Centre’s Support for Seven Hydropower Projects and Sports University Land Transfer
Uttarakhand CM meets Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav; receives in-principle approval for key development initiatives

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Bhupendra Yadav, in New Delhi today and sought the Centre’s support for the approval of seven hydropower projects with a total capacity of 647 MW in the state.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized that Uttarakhand is fully committed to maintaining the purity, continuity, and ecological balance of the Ganga and its tributaries, while advancing sustainable development through clean energy initiatives.

CM Dhami also informed the Union Minister about the state government’s decision to establish a Sports University in Haldwani to promote sports-based employment opportunities for the youth. For this purpose, a proposal has been submitted to the Forest Department seeking the transfer of approximately 12,317 hectares of forest land in the Gaulapar area. He requested the Union Minister to direct officials to expedite necessary approvals for the land transfer.
Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav gave in-principle consent and assured full cooperation from the Ministry for both proposals.
Present during the meeting were Tanmay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand; Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate, Special Secretary; and Ajay Mishra, Local Commissioner.
