NCL Promotes ‘Waste to Art’ and Sanitation Under Special Campaign 5.0

NCL exemplifies how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand in transforming waste into valuable art and action

Responding to the clarion call of the Hon’ble Prime Minister and under the guidance of the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a Singrauli-based subsidiary of Coal India Limited, is actively participating in the Special Campaign 5.0 with a strong emphasis on cleanliness, record management, scrap disposal, and sustainable initiatives across its operational areas.

In line with the “Waste to Beauty” vision, NCL has installed magnificent sculptures of the National Bird – Peacock – and Barasingha, both creatively crafted from iron scrap generated during mining operations. These installations stand as symbols of NCL’s commitment to environmental sustainability and creative innovation.

Further reinforcing its green initiatives, NCL has installed five bio-toilets across its projects to promote hygienic and sustainable sanitation facilities for workers and nearby communities. These eco-friendly toilets are designed to ensure a minimal environmental footprint while supporting the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

As part of community engagement, NCL organized a “Waste to Art” competition at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Singrauli, on October 17, 2025, where students showcased innovative ideas on recycling and reusing scrap materials — inspiring awareness and participation in sustainable waste management practices.

Under the Special Campaign 5.0, NCL continues to drive cleanliness drives, public engagement events, and efficient record management across all areas. The company remains steadfast in its mission to set new benchmarks in cleanliness, administrative efficiency, and environmental consciousness — aligning with the Government’s vision of a Cleaner and Greener India.

Notably, NCL has set an ambitious target under the campaign, including:

  • Cleaning at 75 locations
  • Sanitation across 85,000 square feet of area
  • Disposal of 2,500 metric tonnes of scrap
  • Review of 350 physical files
  • Examination of 9,000 e-files

With its continuous efforts, NCL exemplifies how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand in transforming waste into valuable art and action.
