BCCL Holds Company-Level Bi-Annual Safety Committee Meeting
CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal emphasized that safety is a collective responsibility and the topmost priority in the mining industry

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) organized its company-level bi-annual Safety Committee meeting at Coal Bhawan Headquarters, Dhanbad. The meeting was presided over by CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal, with the Board of Directors and all esteemed members of the BCCL Safety Board in attendance.
The meeting was attended by Murali Krishna Ramaiah, Director (Human Resources); Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Technical) Operations; and Niladri Roy, Director (Technical) Projects & Planning, along with Safety Board members — Umesh Kumar Singh (DCKS), A.M. Paul (BCKU), R.K. Tiwari (BCMU), Shishir Kumar Mahato (AITUC), Ranjay Kumar (JMS), and V.P. Pandey (KIMP).

Also present were CMS Dr. Poonam Dubey, General Manager (Security) Sanjay Kumar Singh, General Manager (HRD) Anup Kumar Roy, and senior officers from various departments, along with all Regional General Managers, Regional Security Officers, and other employees.
The key objective of the meeting was to review the compliance of safe mining practices, strengthen safety awareness, and ensure adherence to updated safety standards across all BCCL mining areas to achieve the company’s target of ‘Zero Harm, Zero Loss.’
An Action Taken Follow-up Report (ATR) from the previous meeting was presented by the Mining and Safety Department through a PowerPoint presentation. Detailed discussions were held on safety issues and recommendations, followed by deliberations among Regional General Managers and Safety Board members. Several important decisions and guidelines were finalized with consensus.

In his presidential address, CMD Manoj Kumar Agarwal emphasized that safety is a collective responsibility and the topmost priority in the mining industry. “Any negligence can risk both production and human life. Our goal is to move towards zero harm, which requires continuous training, technological innovation, and a strong safety culture at every level,” he stated.

Director (HR) Murali Krishna Ramaiah reaffirmed BCCL’s commitment to the “Zero Harm” mission, stressing the importance of collective efforts and continuous awareness initiatives.
Director (Technical Operations) Sanjay Kumar Singh underscored that mining safety is a “sensitive responsibility involving human life,” while Director (Technical) Projects & Planning Niladri Roy highlighted the need for “a practical approach and risk identification systems” for effective safety implementation.
The programme commenced with the National Anthem and Coal India Corporate Song, followed by a two-minute silence in memory of workers who lost their lives in mining accidents. A collective safety oath was then administered to all attendees.
General Manager (Safety) Sanjay Kumar Singh delivered the welcome address, outlining the meeting’s objectives, while Chief Manager (Mining) Kishore Yadav conducted the proceedings. The event concluded with a vote of thanks.
