Pralhad Joshi Announces ₹100 Crore Call for Biomass-Based Hydrogen Pilots

NGHM to Mobilise ₹8 Lakh Crore Investment, Create Six Lakh Jobs, and Save ₹1 Lakh Crore Annually in Fossil Fuel Imports: MNRE Secretary

Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi today announced a ₹100 crore Call for Proposals for pilot projects to produce green hydrogen from biomass and waste materials under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM).

Launching the Mission’s official logo at the 3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH-2025) in New Delhi, the Minister said NGHM is “accelerating India’s clean-energy shift and positioning the country as a global hub for green hydrogen.”

The ₹100-crore initiative will be implemented through BIRAC to support industries, start-ups, and research institutions developing innovative, cost-effective hydrogen technologies.

Launched in 2023 with an outlay of ₹19,744 crore, NGHM aims to mobilise ₹8 lakh crore investment, create six lakh jobs, and save ₹1 lakh crore annually in fossil-fuel imports.

Under the Mission’s SIGHT programme, incentives have already been awarded for 3,000 MW electrolyser manufacturing and 8.62 lakh MTPA green hydrogen production, while India now records the world’s lowest green ammonia price at ₹49.75 per kg.

Joshi said India is committed to building a resilient and inclusive green hydrogen ecosystem, adding that ICGH-2025 is a platform for global collaboration and innovation in clean energy.
